In a way, being a flake is akin to being somewhat irresponsible, unpredictable (in a bad way) or simply a little cray-cray. A flake will change their mind at the last moment when everything going on depends on their decision; flaky people are unreliable.
Say, for instance, you are getting together with friends. You’ve all got a goal — it could be a night out or a get-together at a musical event, or perhaps just the planning of a surprise party and each person involved plays a part. Like, Person A brings the cake, Person B brings the tickets, and Person C arranges the transportation.
The situation is built to go off without a hitch, as everyone has agreed to play their part and do their share. Then, that one person who agreed to come through with their share of the goods not only doesn’t show up, they don’t even call until way after the event is over.
